I need a file back from a formatted volume (a.k.a. unformat)

Problem description
|
When you format a volume that already had data on it, that data is not
destroyed. All the format does is create a fresh set of bookkeeping structures;
files themselves are left undisturbed. Therefore it is generally quite easy to
recover files from an (accidental) format operation.
Please understand: the format itself can not be undone, all you can do in this
situation is copy the files from the formatted volume to safety.
