We have extensively tested and optimized our products for Windows
Vista. With Windows Vista a mechanism called 'User Account Control'
(or UAC for short)
was introduced: the user must explicitly allow a task or program to
run. Also, even when logged in as administrator, programs do not
automatically run with administrative rights, unless those rights
were explicitly
granted by the user. Both iRecover and iUndelete
require administrative rights in order to be able to access a disk directly.
No optimization was required in the DiskPatch Boot Media
Builder code; it does not require administrative access. As DiskPatch
itself runs in a DOS environment, Windows Vista UAC
does not affect DiskPatch operations.
iRecover detects and configures User Account Control
automatically.
iUndelete will detect Windows Vista and prompt the user
to re-start program with administrative rights. iUndelete
displays detailed instructions for starting iUndelete with
administrative rights.
iRecover has a so-called 'manifest' file embedded
that detects if and when administrative rights are required when running
in Windows Vista. No user interaction is required.
If iUndelete detects that administrative rights are
required, you will be prompted.
Note that even if you are logged in as Administrator, these rights are not
inherited when starting iUndelete!
To grant iUndelete administrative
rights once, right-click the shortcut and select 'Run as
administrator'.
To disable to UAC prompt for iUndelete altogether, right click
the short-cut and check 'Run this program
as an administrator' in the compatibility TAB .
iUndelete is now ready to
recover data in Windows Vista!
